As an essential item in daily life, the quality of eggs is of paramount importance. Haian, known as China's poultry egg capital, also serves as a key production and supply base for poultry egg products in the Yangtze River Delta region, particularly for Shanghai. During poultry farming, Salmonella typhimurium poses a severe threat to poultry health, causing fowl typhoid. This pathogen exhibits vertical transmission characteristics and can result in significant economic losses. Consequently, fowl typhoid ranks among the priority diseases for eradication in poultry farming. As a major poultry-producing nation advancing toward becoming a leading livestock and poultry powerhouse, China must strengthen disease eradication efforts in poultry farming. This initiative also aligns with the nation's objectives for revitalizing the seed industry and building reputable brands.
Professor Jiao Xinan and his team at Yangzhou University, leveraging platforms such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs' Control Laboratory for Biological Hazards in Agricultural Products (Animal Origin) and the Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Zoonoses, have successfully developed new cellular immunity-based disease prevention technologies for poultry. They have identified novel epidemiological characteristics of major poultry diseases and created innovative immunoprevention products, including rapid Salmonella detection methods. This has established a new “biosecurity + comprehensive immunity” prevention system, advancing precision disease control in poultry. The comprehensive control technology for purifying Salmonella enteritidis in chickens has matured through practical application, achieving significant results in purifying Salmonella infections in poultry. This approach has yielded substantial economic, social, and ecological benefits.

On February 25, 2024, the on-site advancement meeting for the major agricultural technology collaborative promotion project “Comprehensive Prevention and Control Technology for Salmonella Typhimurium Purification” was successfully held in Hai'an City. The event was hosted by Yangzhou University and organized by Jiangsu Tiancheng Technology Group. Attendees included Professor Jiao Xinan, Party Secretary of Yangzhou University, and his team; Dong Fei, Chief Veterinary Officer of Haian City, along with experts from the Haian Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station; Chen Min, President of Jiangsu Tiancheng Technology Group, and relevant personnel; as well as representatives from member units of the Nantong Laying Hen Industry Alliance.
The Collaborative Promotion of Major Agricultural Technologies leverages cutting-edge agricultural techniques to pioneer a new service mechanism. This initiative explores a “six-tier linkage” system spanning national, provincial, municipal, county, township, and household (village) levels, alongside a “six-in-one” approach integrating government, industry, academia, research, promotion, and application. It facilitates vertical integration and horizontal coordination to address the disconnect between research and extension, accelerate the practical application of major agricultural technologies, and achieve innovative solutions for efficient agricultural technology dissemination and increased farmer income. The purpose of this meeting was to promote the application of Salmonella Tycis purification technology for avian typhoid, enabling enterprises to master the technology proficiently and utilize it for disease eradication. Through establishing enterprise demonstration sites and bases, combined with the “six-level linkage,” personnel at different administrative levels will acquire this disease purification technology. They will then disseminate it within their jurisdictions to achieve regional disease eradication.

Chen Min, President of Tiancheng Group, stated that Tiancheng Group will seize this “collaborative promotion” initiative as an opportunity to actively apply and promote the “Comprehensive Prevention and Control Technology for Purification of Salmonella Typhimurium” developed over years by Professor Jiao Xinan's team. Working alongside member enterprises of the Laying Hen Alliance, we will rigorously implement project practices and disseminate research outcomes according to the plan. This effort aims to translate university research achievements into practical applications, establishing replicable and scalable disease prevention and control technologies for livestock and poultry. We strive to contribute Tiancheng's strength to boosting farmers' incomes and driving regional economic development!

The event featured a handover ceremony for material subsidies, the unveiling of township expert workstations, and the inauguration of county-level expert guidance stations. Professor Wang Yanyun from Yangzhou University and Professor Wang Yongjuan from Jiangsu Vocational College of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry delivered specialized lectures on relevant topics. The successful convening of this advancement meeting enabled all implementing parties within the project team to gain a clearer understanding of the project's status, fostered a spirit of collaborative cooperation, clarified the responsibilities of each party, and laid a solid foundation for the coordinated implementation of various service promotion activities in the next phase of the project.
