This is a scene from the ecological farm—Tiansheng Pasture (Yazhou)—in Hai’an, Jiangsu, featured in the CCTV Finance Channel’s program “Rural Revitalization: A Journey Across China.” In this 12-story modern chicken coop, there are as many as 155,000 laying hens, yet it requires almost no direct human management.

Stepping into the chicken coop at Tiansheng Pasture Farm, you’ll find a clean and tidy floor and fresh, well-ventilated air—completely different from the typical impression of a conventional chicken farm. Even more surprising is that at first glance, you can’t spot a single human caretaker in sight—the “manager” here is a robot that conducts three rounds of inspections every day.

This is a scene from the ecological farm—Tiansheng Pasture (Yazhou)—in Hai’an, Jiangsu Province, featured in CCTV’s financial channel program “Rural Revitalization: A Journey Across China.” In this 12-story, state-of-the-art chicken coop, there are as many as 155,000 laying hens, yet the facility requires almost no direct human management. “Robots patrol the chicken coop three times a day,” explains Xu Zhijiang, the farm’s manager. “If they detect any abnormalities, they’ll immediately notify technicians to come and address the issue on-site.” These robots can handle tasks that are either difficult for humans to reach or involve excessively strenuous labor, saving manpower while ensuring comprehensive and precise farm management. On the other side of the chicken coop, conveyor belts are continuously transporting fresh eggs. At this peak egg-laying period, the coop produces roughly 150,000 eggs each day. Thanks to a three-tier egg-conveying system, these eggs can be transported to the egg-processing workshop within just one hour.

Before entering the market, each egg undergoes a series of rigorous processes—including automatic sorting, washing, inspection, and packaging—to ensure it reaches thousands of households within 24 hours. Underlying this efficient process is the solid support provided by automated farming and intelligent processing technologies. Currently, the total annual stock of laying hens in Hainan City has reached 17 million, with daily production of fresh eggs exceeding 700 tons and an annual total output value surpassing 10 billion yuan. From large-scale, automated farming to sophisticated deep-processing, the laying-hen industry has become one of the distinctive pillar industries driving rural revitalization in the region.

“By leveraging technology to empower traditional agriculture, we’re making livestock farming smarter, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly,” said the head of Tiansheng Pasture. This chicken farm, managed by robots, is a vivid microcosm of the modern agricultural transformation and upgrade—and it also provides a replicable, intelligent model for revitalizing rural industries.
