On February 24, stepping into the egg collection center of Jiangsu Tiancheng Technology Group's Tiansheng Farm in Hai'an Coastal New District, reporters observed freshly laid eggs from chicken coops entering an intelligent production line before being neatly packaged and stacked.

On February 24, stepping into the egg collection center of Jiangsu Tiancheng Technology Group's Tiansheng Farm in Hai'an Coastal New District, reporters observed freshly laid eggs from the chicken coops entering an automated production line before being neatly packaged and stacked. Outside the facility, several trucks awaited loading, ready to transport the goods to retailers like Costco, RT-Mart, and Aldi.
“This is our MOBA egg sorting equipment imported from the Netherlands. We have six lines, each capable of sorting 144,000 eggs per hour,” explained Li Weimin, Executive Deputy General Manager of Nantong Tiancheng Modern Agriculture Technology Co., Ltd. With the new intelligent sorting equipment, labor requirements have been reduced to just one-sixth of the original, and more importantly, precise control over egg quality has been achieved.

After over 30 years of development, Tiancheng Technology Group has become East China's largest integrated egg production enterprise, encompassing feed manufacturing, breeding stock rearing, chick hatching, commercial poultry farming, branded egg sales, and egg processing.
In S01# poultry house, the ambient temperature is 22.8°C, humidity 54%, ammonia 0... On the group's digital poultry farming platform, data on flock conditions and environmental parameters from each house is processed into statistical charts and graphs, displayed clearly and intuitively on screens. Chen Min, President of Tiancheng Group, explained that the company is dedicated to building a digital egg-laying industry, creating a smart farm with “five key innovations”: precision environmental control, refined feeding, automated egg collection, digital disease prevention, and resource utilization of chicken manure. The company continuously explores the innovative application of digital technologies.
“This is the AI barn-patrolling robot we independently developed in collaboration with Jiangnan University. Each unit costs approximately 400,000 yuan.” To enhance egg-laying efficiency, the company partnered with Jiangnan University to introduce a mobile sensing system with patrol robots, enabling comprehensive monitoring of all flocks within the barns. Starting at 4 a.m. daily, the AI robots conduct inspections, assessing chicken vitality based on body temperature and physical condition. They identify and mark dead birds and non-productive weak chickens for prompt handling by farm managers.
With 120,000 birds housed in a single coop, manual identification was inefficient and imprecise in the past. The AI robots have significantly reduced the workload. “The monitoring system can also accurately identify overly obese or emaciated chickens, allowing feeders to receive real-time alerts via a mobile app,” Chen Min explained.
In the antibody testing room, inspector Zhang Yu begins sampling flock conditions at 7:30 AM. By 11:30 AM, after receiving serum test results, he takes immediate action based on antibody titers. Should low antibody levels appear, Zhang promptly notifies the disease prevention team to administer booster vaccines. Under the leadership of Zhang Chengcheng, the company's Vice President of Technology and a PhD from Yangzhou University, Tiancheng has completed egg-laying hen disease monitoring and is now applying for an animal disease detection patent.
In the welfare chicken house, mother hens enjoy spacious, cage-free living. Unconstrained by cages, they play on roosting perches and lay eggs in designated “laying nests.” In early 2022, Tiancheng's cage-free egg production earned certification from the Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC) organization under the Animal Welfare Egg Production Standard. The company currently maintains a cage-free flock of approximately 15,400 birds, ensuring supply for premium clients like Costco Wholesale and Shanghai Disney Resort hotels.
The technological sophistication embodied in a single egg extends far beyond this. In production operations, Tiancheng Technology has established an integrated agricultural automation system and platform encompassing environmental monitoring and regulation, precision feeding, disease diagnosis and early warning, and automated product collection and grading. For manure resource utilization, the company has developed automated manure removal and fermentation process monitoring and control systems, generating annual organic fertilizer revenue exceeding 10 million yuan.
Hai'an has established industrial strengths in “silk, fish, eggs, oil, and rice,” fully embodying the modern character of “Suzhou's new land of fish and rice.” Tan Zhen, Secretary of the Hai'an Municipal Party Committee, stated that the city will continue to implement a comprehensive strategy for technological innovation, striving to build a strong agricultural city characterized by robust supply guarantees, advanced technological equipment, a powerful operational system, strong industrial resilience, and competitive capabilities.
